Frequently Asked Questions

Buying & Choosing

How do I choose the right electric bike?

Start with how you’ll ride: commuting favors step-through and city bikes; trails favor fat-tire and E-MTB; hunting needs payload and quiet power; kids need age-rated models. Then match frame size, motor power, and battery range to the rider. Our free consultation walks you through all of it in one conversation.

How much should I spend on my first e-bike?

Most first-time riders are well served between $1,000 and $1,800 — enough for reliable brands, hydraulic brakes, and decent batteries without paying for racing-level parts. Below ~$800, quality and support get risky. We’ll tell you honestly when spending more matters and when it’s wasted money.

How far can an electric bike go on one charge?

Typical e-bikes travel 25–60 miles per charge depending on battery size, assist level, rider weight, hills, and temperature. Long-range and dual-battery models can exceed 80 miles. Cold weather can cut range noticeably — a key consideration for Pennsylvania winters and late-season hunting rides.

Electric or gas dirt bike — which should I buy?

Electric dirt bikes win on quiet operation, instant torque, minimal maintenance, and ease of learning — ideal for backyards, new riders, and noise-sensitive areas. Gas still wins on refuel speed for all-day riding. For most families and property owners in our region, electric is the more practical choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laws & Riding

Are electric bikes legal in Pennsylvania?

Yes. Pennsylvania treats e-bikes with motors up to 750W, assisted speeds up to 20 mph, and weight under 100 lbs like bicycles; riders must be 16 or older. More powerful machines, including electric dirt bikes, are off-road-only. Ohio and West Virginia use the three-class system. Always verify current local rules.

Do I need a license or insurance for an e-bike?

For standard e-bikes meeting Pennsylvania’s definition, no license, registration, or insurance is required. High-power electric dirt bikes and moped-class vehicles are different — they’re restricted to private property and off-road areas unless separately registered where permitted. Ask us before buying if street use matters to you.

Where can I ride an electric dirt bike?

Ride electric dirt bikes on private property with permission, motocross tracks, and designated off-road riding areas. They are not street-legal and rules on public lands vary — Pennsylvania State Game Lands, state forests, and Ohio and West Virginia public areas each set their own motorized-access policies. Frequently Asked Questions

Test Rides, Service & Support

Can I test ride before buying?

Yes — test rides are free and by appointment at our Ambridge, PA location. We keep a wide variety of demo bikes for all ages and most categories, so you can compare styles back to back. Call/Text (412) 407-7815 or email us to schedule; consultations are free too.

Do you service e-bikes bought somewhere else?

Yes. We assemble, maintain, repair, and upgrade e-bikes and electric dirt bikes from most brands — including bikes bought on Amazon, Walmart, or direct-to-consumer sites with no local support. That after-sale service is the core of our business. Contact us with your brand and model for a quote.

Do you help kids and older adults find bikes?

Absolutely — it’s our specialty. We fit riders from kids on age-appropriate youth e-bikes to older adults on easy-mount step-through frames, matching power and size to ability. Whole families often test ride together at one appointment so everyone leaves with the right bike, not the same bike.
